We are pleased to announce the 12th edition of the Aquatic Virus Workshop to be held in the Oceanologic Observatory of Banyuls-sur-Mer, France. AVW brings together world-class research on viruses of microbes and protists from aquatic environments from around the globe. This year's theme is "from Virus Traits to Cellular Fates" aimed to foster exchange on all aspects of aquatic viral biology including diversity, evolution, ecology, population modelling, structure and function, as well as the role of viruses on ecosystem function and processes.
The Oceanologic Observatory of Banyuls-sur-Mer (OOB) is located on the Mediterranean coast in the south of France, nestled between the mountains and the sea, and just a stone's throw away from the Spanish border. Due to the exceptional terrestrial and marine biodiversity, this site was chosen in 1882 by the French zoologist Henri de Lacaze-Duthiers for foundation of the Oceanologic Observatory. OOB was instrumental in the foundation of the first French Marine Nature Reserve of Cerbère-Banyuls, and today is integrated into the Marine Park of the Gulf of Lion. As 2025 is announced to be the national Year of the Oceans in France, OOB is a fitting site for AVW12.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in 5-9th May, 2025!
We have a capacity to host 120 participants. Please watch the website regularly for news updates, the opening of abstract submissions and final registration.
